Program Requirements
Admissions:
Applicants for the add on licensure program must:

*Note: GRE scores are waived for the add-on licensure program and are not required for admission.

Program of Study Substitutions:

Students may be authorized to make course substitutions to the recommended Program of Study by submitting a written request outlining the instructional rationale for the change. These requests will be reviewed by a MSA faculty member committee. The committee will consider the written rationale and review the student’s prior educational record and experiences in making decisions concerning substitutions that reduce the hours required or identify other courses needed in the add-on program. Requests should be sent to Lori Dean.

Internship Courses

This program requires two 3-semester-hour internship courses. Students are required to have at least 80 hours of school/school system-based supervised experiences for each internship course. Each applicant should provide a letter or e-mail from a superintendent expressing a willingness to provide meaningful and effective learning experiences for the internships. The internships are intended to help students learn about the demands, skills and issues involved in the work of assistant principals and principals. These experiences should be substantive learning experiences mutually designed the student, school internship contact person and an ASU faculty member.

Students receive at least one school visit during the course by our ASU faculty member. In addition, students are expected to participate in at least four group sessions during the semester to share experiences with other students and the faculty member. These sessions are designed to help students reflect on experiences and design with the help of others ways to enhance the internship experience.

Schedule/Program Completion

It is possible to complete the add on program in one year providing the courses needed are available. For example, if a student wants to take 9 hours instead of 6 please contact Sandy Krause or Lori Dean to identify options.
